Terms and Conditions
  • These Terms and Conditions are applicable to all customers who choose to subscribe to 8ta more offering.
  • All prices are inclusive of VAT and are subject to the in-store activation of an 8ta starter pack.
  • 8ta More will offer subscribers 100 % free airtime based on their recharge behaviour.
  • This offer is available to all new and existing 8ta customers; and supports Mobile Number Port-ins.
  • 8ta customers who are on the current 8ta More plan will be automatically switched to the new 8ta More plan.
  • Existing 8ta prepaid (per second/per minute) customers can migrate to the 8ta more offering.
  • The standard call rate is at R1.90 per minute on per second billing, but because 8ta doubles your airtime, the effective call rate is 95c per minute if you use your free airtime within 7days.
  • Free airtime can be used for calls to any South African network anytime.
  • All recharges with the minimum value of R5 and above will qualify  for the “FREE airtime”  For Example:
    • If you recharge for R5, you get R10
    • If you recharge for R15, you get R30
    • If you recharge for R50, you get R100
  • Cumulative recharges adding up to R5 will not earn Free airtime.
  • Up to R1000.00Free airtime can be earned per day.
  • Free airtime expires within 7 days from date of recharge.
  • Free airtime is used before paid-for airtime.
  • Free airtime is not transferable.
  • Free airtime can be used for calls to any South African network anytime.
  • Free airtime can be used for standard rate SMS, MMS, and Data. (surfing the net)
  • Free airtime cannot be used for standard or promotional bundles (data, SMS/MMS, BIS/BES) and premium rated services.
  • Free airtime cannot be used for international calls, -roaming, -SMSs/MMSs
  • Upon the launch of 8ta more as the default tariff plan, current Prepaid (current per-minute & per-second will become legacy tariffs. i.e. No new subscribers will be provisioned on the legacy prepaid plan/s.
  • 8ta subscribers who migrate to 8ta more will not be able to migrate back to the previous plan/s.
  • Hybrid/Saver plans Top Ups do not qualify for Pre-paid benefits.
  • 8ta is entitled to discontinue the allocation of Free airtime on the offer in its sole discretion and will notify customers if it chooses to do so.

  • Participants give 8ta, a division of Telkom, permission to communicate with them via any channel.

How do I get 8ta more?

If you are a new 8ta Prepaid customer, you will automatically be on 8ta more.
If you are an existing 8ta Prepaid customer you can migrate to 8ta more via your handset:

  • Dial *180#
  • Select Option 5 – “Tariff Change”
  • Select “Tariff 2 – 8ta more”

Please note: Once you have migrated to 8ta more, you will not be able to move back to your previous tariff.

How much free airtime do I get when I recharge?

The % FREE airtime you get is calculated on a sliding scale and is dependent on the recharge value:

Recharge with R5 Get R5 FREE airtime
Recharge with R10 Get R10 FREE airtime
Recharge with R50 Get R50 FREE airtime


Can I get free airtime if I do two recharges of R5 each?
To enjoy the free airtime benefit from 8ta more, you have to recharge with a single transaction to the value of R5 or more.

When do I receive my free airtime?
Your free airtime will be allocated and available immediately after your recharge has been confirmed.

How do I use my free airtime?
You can use your free airtime to make calls, send SMS, MMS or for data. You will always use your free airtime first, before your paid-for airtime.

Does my free airtime expire?
Your free airtime will expire seven days from the date of recharge.

How do I check my free airtime balance?
You can check your free airtime by following these steps:

  • Dial *188# and press the green dial button
  • Your paid airtime will be displayed on screen

You will also receive an SMS informing you how much free airtime you have and when it will expire.

If I migrate to 8ta more, what will happen to my existing airtime, SMS/MMS bundle and data bundle? Will it be carried over?
Yes, your paid airtime, SMS/MMS bundles and data bundles will be carried over to 8ta more.

Does the 8ta more Prepaid plan include the, “send 5 SMS's and get 50 free for that day” promotion?
No, with 8ta more you earn free airtime with every recharge of R5 and more.

Does the 8ta more Prepaid plan include the, “earn free minutes when people call you” promotion?
No, with 8ta more you earn free airtime with every recharge of R5 and more.

Can I buy data bundles with my free airtime?
You can use your free airtime on data, but you cannot buy data bundles or any other promotional/standard bundles. When you buy data bundles with your paid airtime, you can use your free airtime on calls, SMS, MMS and data.

Can I buy SMS/MMS bundles with my free airtime?
You can use your free airtime to send SMS/MMS, but you cannot buy any promotional or standard SMS/MMS bundle. When you buy SMS/MMS bundles with your paid airtime, you can use your free airtime on calls, SMS, MMS and data.

Can I buy BlackBerry Internet Services and BlackBerry Social & Email Plan with my free airtime?
You can buy BlackBerry Internet Services and BlackBerry Social & Email Plan with your paid airtime, and use your free airtime for making calls, sending SMS or MMS.

I already have BlackBerry Internet Services and BlackBerry Social & Email Plan. If I migrate to 8ta more, what will happen?
You will be able to carry over the BlackBerry Internet Services and BlackBerry Social & Email Plan.

Can I make international calls with my free airtime?
With 8ta more you can make local calls to any network, unfortunately international calls are excluded.

Can I make premium rated calls and SMSes with my free airtime?
Free airtime can be used for SMS, MMS, data and calls but all premium rate services are excluded.

If I migrate to 8ta more, what will happen to my free minutes?
If your free minutes have been allocated already you can carry it over to 8ta more. Accumulated free minutes that have not been allocated will unfortunately fall away when you migrate to 8ta more.

Can I transfer my free airtime?
Free airtime is only for you to enjoy and is not transferable.
